MILONGA is a 2023 Uruguayan-Argentine Psychological drama[1] film directed by Laura González (Uruguay[2]) with Berlinale winner Chilean actress Paulina García[3] and Uruguayan actor César Troncoso[4].

The film premiered in Uruguay in June 2023 and in august 2023 in Argentina, and it was well received by the general public and the press. It received 7 Nominations by ACCU Awards (Asociación de Críticos de Cine del Uruguay[5]/ FIPRESCI[4])[5], including Best Film, Best Director and Best Script, and won the Best Opera Prima and Best Actress (Paulina García) awards.

The film went on to have a U.S Premiere at the American Film Institute 34th AFI Latin American Film Festival[6], it then closed the 40th anniversary Gala of the Chicago Latino FF[7], and won the Public Award at the Cine Las Américas[8](Austin, TX), among others.

Synopsis

Rosa still lives by her husband’s rules despite the fact that he died six months ago. Her worsening relationship with her son has left her estranged from her only family. When she meets Juan, a divorcee, with whom she shares her passion for tango, she starts to rediscover herself and something starts to change. But before she can move on she's confronted with some uncomfortable truths.
