Early Life (1998-2008)

[edit]

Matthew Tyler Konawalik was born on February 9th, 1998 in East Stroudsburg, PA. In his early years, Matt wanted to grow up to be a lot of different things. In elementary reading classes, whenever he would have to create poems, he realized that he was real good at it. He soon began to have a little interest in poetry.

Early Career Struggles (2009-2011)

[edit]

In 6th grade, Matt met friends Will and Zach. Ironically, Zach ended up being Matt's cousin. The 3 of them had an interest in rap and formed a rap group called Young Chainz. Fortunately, the three of them had a nice English teacher who would let them perform Drake's song "Forever" at the end of class each day. Aside from school, Matt planned on being a solo artist himself and always dreamed of being famous. As the end of the school year approached, Young Chainz was separated. The 3 of them have not did any work since and in 2012, Matt stated that Young Chainz was now defunct. Matt got picked on a lot for being the only "white boy" to rap in his school and quit his music career due to the hate from 2010-2011.

Back to Music (2012-2013)

[edit]

In early 2012, Matt kept wanting to rap again but would never start until he met rapper Won-o-Ate. Won-o-Ate inspired Matt to rap again and on May 16th, 2012, Matt started writing. On June 30th, 2012 Matt released his first mixtape titled, "My Life". A month after the release, he took it down saying he "rushed it" and that it was "garbage". Matt.K released a demo titled "Growing UP" on September 8th, 2012 which was then later removed due to copyright issues. He released his debut EP "The 2 Word EP" on February 8th, 2013. On March 24th, 2013 he released his debut mixtape (he doesn't consider My Life his debut mixtape) "Step Away". On May 12th, 2013 Matt released "My Life V2: The EP". On December 10th, 2013 Matt.K released "My Life V2" which is a remake of "My Life".

More Music & Quitting (2014-2016)

[edit]

On April 5th, 2014, Matt.K released his 3rd EP, titled The 3 Word EP. On March 24th, 2015 he released Step Away 2 to celebrate the 2 year anniversary since the first Step Away was released. On July 11th, 2015 Matt.K released The Journey EP. On August 30th, 2015, Matt.K released A New Anthem EP. On October 24th, 2015 Matt.K release The 4 Word EP. On April 30th, 2016, Matt.K released his final project titled The Conclusion. Matt.K then retired from rap to focus on college and other personal interests.

Other Ventures: Record Labels

[edit]

On July 22nd, 2012 Matt.K launched his own independent record label, Konawalik Records. The label signed rapper Won-o-Ate on July 25th, 2012. On October 22nd, 2012 Matt signed his rap group Young Chainz to the label. However, weeks later he confirmed that the group is defunct but would keep them part of the label due to the possibility of them getting back together. On January 27th, 2013 Matt.K signed producer and graphic artist Turpoleon to Konawalik Records. On March 24th, 2015, Matt.K & Won-o-Ate were confirmed to be the only remaining artists on the label. On May 1st, 2016, Konawalik Records was shut down due to Matt.K retiring.

Personal Life

[edit]

Matt's brother Ryne passed away on December 30th, 2006. This impacted the family hard and inspired Matt to write songs for his brother. Matt was picked on a lot when people found out he made music, and it used to get him really down, but now he knows to stay strong and just ignore them. Matt has stated how much he hates drama and tries to stay away from it. Matt is an honors student in school and one day, hopes to achieve his dream as a rapper. Matt has stated that when he was younger, he used to listen to country music and hated rap music.
