Bristol In:Motion are an underground music brand coming from Bristol. They hold a weekly programme of events that feature an eclectic range of talent from hip-hop, to raw drum and bass, to dubstep to indie, bass- driven electro to straight up underground house and techno. This October they re-open their doors for another season of ‘In:Motion’ series. Last year saw huge success for In:Motion with it’s sell out events. 2011 sees them come back with the hottest electronic acts of the moment gracing the infamous Bristol ramp skate-park, turned rave haven.

Background

One day, "Little" Tom Paine, had a vision, God spoke to him in a dream and said "hello my son, why waste all your precious time and energy chasing these Tesco mobile promoters around town, when you could be channeling all this energy and time into putting on the shows - and making sure each and every one of them is full of the most exciting music that can possibly be, and packed to the rafters with people having the time of their lives".... "Good Point Dad!" answered Little Tom, "But surely I can't do this all by myself, I shall need some brothers to help me..." to this the Holy Father replied "I have already chosen your brother's for you, and yay, they are fine brothers, and yay, you will love them and prosper with them for as long as thou shalt all work together...." To this Little Thomas replied "but who are these brothers that i shall learn to respect and to build my future together with..... "

Rob "The Fearsome" Cracknell

Disowned by his parents on his 7rd birthday because his inability to have a full head of hair, he was found and dragged up by a group of traveling folk artists. After 9 years of pure acoustic hell he ran away to the big smoke (well Cambridge but after living in a caravan that was quite smokey), this is where he was introduced to underground music and soon fell in love with a well known drum and bass mc (still he is not aloud to say who or they will bruk him up) after that turned sour he moved to Bristol and started to run party's with Oliver 'lord of hate' Ball and Tom 'sicknote' Hoyle. With the holy trinity in place they would put on some jolly nice party's, even when the evil Dave 'calm down' Harvey tried to get in their way. When not in the holy trinity Rob is the key sulky/ angryface in the In:Motion team.

"Big" Tom Kilford

Owner of the Venue and Man we all have to thank for starting the ball rolling. Manager and Financier of the Motion BMX Team http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rvntJ6ZpcNc and all-round nice guy. Tom took over the whole venue a little under 5 years ago when it was in the hands of the bailiffs, paid off all the debts, and built the new park. Today it is not only the biggest indoor park in the South West but also one of the best underground music venues in the world! Not bad going for a man who loves nothing more than curling up in bed under a duvet and watching 7 hrs straight of "Animals do the funniest things"...

Rag ‘A’ Muffin

Discovered as a child at Temple Meads station by his parents with nothing but a sequined cape, a marmalade sandwich and a label saying “Please look after this Rag bear. Thank you” Rag left Bristol at a young age to tour the world with his family’s travelling Sri Lankan band. But he became sick. Doctors could not fathom what was wrong, but then he met an Argentinian witch doctor who found that his heart was beating in four four, and insisted he must return to Bristol and party! Heading to Bristol uni in 2005 for a BA (Hons) in chemistry but graduating with a masters in house, he got his doctorate at Back 2 Basics, Below and Bristol’s very own Play and together with two DJ pals set up his own school to teach Bristol’s deprived bass generation all about house music – he called it Just Jack. Since then Rag has taught house (and occasionally techno as a supply teacher) at schools across Bristol, including Groove On, Bugged Out! and The Zoo, before discovering Motion in 2006, and the rest is history…

"Little" Tom Paine

Catona calls him the "water carrier", others "the talent", the more ignorant persons in the production staff "Lastminute.tom" he is the guy that holds it all together whilst the show ponies take all the glory. Still, "Little" Tom likes to shy away from the limelight, having been raised in a cave in Southern Wales by a group of loveable Neolithic males, otherwise known as Anglo-Welsh security...

History of Motion

Taking over the venue in 2006, Tom Kilford essentially started with nothing, building a brand new ramp park in the main-room warehouse space, and opening up the smaller side rooms as a cafe and bar space. The first person to properly realise the full potential of the space available was a young Rag, who started doing 'secret' parties in the venue shortly afterwards.

"We sold 300 tickets to a secret party where no-one knew the location or the DJs, asked them to meet by the Thekla and picked them up by boats!" Rag

With licensing requiring that the music be moved inside from the main terrace space that autumn, Tom Kilford offered Rag the main 9ft vertical ramp room with its elevated DJ booth, and the ramp raves were born. Teaming up Just Jack with Bristol breaks institution Blowpop the next year saw a series of huge parties welcoming the likes of M.A.N.D.Y, Carl Craig, Jamie Jones & Tiefschwarz to the venue.

Tom Paine joined the venue as general manager at the end of 2008, securing a permanent licence for the skate park area, with that same year seeing the likes of Deadmau5 playing at the venue. When Rob Cracknell and the Blast boys then brought their massive line-up of events to the venue, including the monsters that are Sh*t The Bed, Run and Hospitality, Motion’s place as Bristol’s leading club was cemented.

Come 2010, the venue decided that bringing the autumn-winter season of events in-house would help really push the venue to the next level, and thus the In:Motion series was born.
