Barbara Wolff (* 1951 in Kyritz) is a German photographer.

Biography

Wolff, was born in the Prignitz region in Brandenburg as the daughter of the photographer Werner Hinz. She completed an apprenticeship in her father's atelier after graduating from high school and studied photography at the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst in Leipzig from 1970 to 1975. After graduating, she worked as a freelance illustrator, photographer and graphic designer. Photocollages and montages were characteristic of her style during this period. Between 1982 and 1985 she lived in the Brandenburg village Sechzehneichen (Sixteen Oaks). There the very personal long-term project about the village and its inhabitants was born. After applying to leave Germany, Barbara Wolff moved to West Germany in 1985 and settled in Munich. This was followed by stays abroad and trips, e.g. to Guatemala, Paris or Vietnam. Since 1989 Barbara Wolff has worked as a freelance photographer and graphic designer for Linhof Kamerawerke in Munich. She taught visual communication and photography at the Munich School of Design from 1998 to 2011. During her further freelance activities she has led the development of photographic workshops in countries such as Brazil and Yemen and has given lectures on photography in China, Finland and Vietnam. Today Barbara Wolff lives and works in Berlin.
