Amarguinha is a reference traditional brand amongst the Portuguese bitter almond liqueurs. With the slogan A amêndoa de Portugal, "The Portuguese almond," it's available in two flavours: Original & lemon, the latter having been released during the summer of 2012.[1] The original flavour bears a pale yellow colour,[2] while the lemon version presents a a brighter yellow, similar to the almond drupes themselves. Both are rated at 20% ABV, and are sold in 700 ml bottles.[3]
Origin
[edit]Amarguinha is a traditional liqueur from the Algarve region, in Portugal,[4] obtained from an old recipe for bitter almond liqueur. The ingredient list includes water, sugar, alcohol, aromas and caramel colorings. Amarguinha bears a refreshing, persistent flavour, in which the almond hints balance with com the sweet notes. Currently, Amarguinha is produced by Destilatum - Destilaria Portuguesa, and distributed by Companhia Espirituosa.
Usage
[edit]It may be consumed as an aperitif, digestif or used to prepare cocktails.[5] It is normally drank cold or on ice, potentially with drops of lemon juice or a lemon slice.[4]
