db Competitions

[edit]

The Drinks Business runs a series of events, including its Green Awards[1][2], which focus on green, environmental and ethical wine and spirits related activities, and The Drinks Business Awards which span a much larger range of activities within the industry, from marketing and PR campaigns to personality of the year awards. In 2011 the magazine launched the first of its Masters series which is an extension of the Spirits Masters series, run by the title's sister publication, The Spirits Business, and distinguishes itself from other competitions by focusing exclusively on one region or style of winemaking for each of the competitions.

The Masters Series

[edit]

The process for the competition is to have all wines judged blind by a panel of relevant industry experts in categories that are related to that particular Masters[3]. For example, for the Champagne Masters, the categories were vintage, non-vintage, prestige cuvée, blanc de blancs, and rosé. The magazine launched the Rioja Masters in 2012, and the Fortified Masters in 2013, and plans to launch the Global Grand Masters also in 2013, which will comprise four major categories; Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc.
