Matthew Wilson is a British gardener, garden and landscape designer, author and broadcaster.

Wilson was born in 1966 and raised on his parents cut flower nursery, but showed little interest in growing plants, instead developing an interest in wildlife, the countryside and music.On leaving school and with no cleare idea of what to do for a career he worked in such diverse jobs as hotel trainee manager, wine salesman, pizza chef, meat porter and journalist, including a spell as a freelancer at The Sun [1] newspaper, whilst attempting to make a career as a musician.

In 1990 he decided to retrain in horticulture and attended Hadlow College in Kent [2]and from there embarked on a career in garden design and management.In 2000 he was appointed Curator of the Royal Horticultural Society's garden Hyde Hall in Essex, at that time the RHS's youngest curator, and in 2004 moved to the Society's Yorkshire garden, Harlow Carr, as Curator and Head of Site [3]. In June 2009 he was appointed RHS head of Gardens Creative Development.

From 2000 onwards Wilson began to write for garden magazines and national newspapers, including The Daily Telegraph, Gardens Illustrated, The Garden, Country Living, BBC Gardeners World Magazine, and The Guardian [[4][5]. In 2007 his book, New Gardening; How to Garden in a Changing Climate (Mitchell Beazley)[6] was awarded the Garden Media Guild Practical Book of the Year award [7]

Having appeared regularly on the BBC2 show Gardeners World from 2002 onwards Wilson was widley tipped to take over the role of lead presenter after the departure of Monty Don in 2008 [8] a role eventually filled by Toby Buckland.

In September 2008 Wilson began filming a new series for Channel 4 [9] called Landscape Man, made by Red House TV [10]. The series, and accompanying book, Making a Garden (Quadrille)[11] are due for release late 2009/early 2010.
