James C. Werner (born James Cyril Werner June 25, 1973, Hobart, Indiana) is an American Classical Realism painter. Trained in Chicago, Werner is established as a portrait, landscape, still life, and figurative, artist. He is also well known as a teacher of studio arts and history in Indiana and abroad.

Life and work[edit]

J.C. Werner was born in Hobart, Indiana in 1973. By the age of 5 he was consumed by art and encouraged by his uncle who was a student at the Chicago Art Institute to get in to painting, at the age of 16 he attended Saturday Life Drawing classes in Chicago, Illinois. He served 4 years in the US Marines,and in 1999 graduated valedictorian with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the American Academy of Art where he studied with the legendary /Bill Parks, John Trapp Phd. and Ted Smuskiewcz. Their training stems from the Belgium Royal Academy and the Superior Institute in Antwerp where William H. Mosby studied after WWI before bringing the tradition to Chicago. Attending many tours and Lectures in Art History at the Chicago Art Institute as a teenager and while studying in Chicago James would build the foundation that would later allow him to be a professor of Art History and Art Appreciation. As a member of the [Palette and Chisel Academy of Fine Art], in Chicago James refined his skills drawing the nude figure and as a portrait painter. James would later go on to study at The Florence Academy of Art, Florence, Italy (summer 2002) and receive a Masters of Arts in Fine Arts from, Purdue University in 2002

By the age of 11 she wanted to be a painter,[1] and at the age of 14 she attended the fine arts summer program Belvoir Terrace in Lenox, Massachusetts. She graduated from the prestigious Miami highschool New World School of the Arts,[2] and in 1990 graduated early with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.[3]
