Demak was a port city located on the northern coast of Java, it was the capital city of the Demak Sultanate, one of the earliest Muslim kingdoms in Java. The city itself is said to be established in the late 15th century by a Chinese Muslim immigrant as a port town within the Majapahit Empire, it gained independence from Majapahit in 1478 and became an empire under Raden Patah's rule.
