The Province of Lesser Sunda (Indonesian: Soenda Kecil, Sunda Kecil) was a province in Indonesia located in the lesser sunda islands, consisting present day Bali, East Nusa Tenggara and West Nusa Tenggara, containing parts of Timor. The province was established in 1945 by the Indonesian government before later surrendered and returned the control to the NICA in 1946. It was only from 1950, after the dissolution of the United States of Indonesia and its constituent state State of East Indonesia was dissolved, the province governance was resumed.

Sunda Kecil was renamed in 1954 as the Province of Nusa Tenggara (Indonesian: Provinsi Nusa Tenggara). The province was dissolved in 1958 when it was devided into three new independent provinces known today as Province of Bali, East Nusa Tenggara and West Nusa tenggara.

History

Prior to the establishment of the Province, the regions in lesser sunda islands was administered under the Dutch government known as residencies under the government of Great East Governorate.
