DB General is a 700-short-ton (635 t) capacity Clyde Iron Works model 52 barge-mounted crane which is the largest revolving floating crane on the West Coast of the United States. The largest floating crane on the East Coast is the similar Weeks 533.

History[edit]

The DB General floating barge-crane was built for General Construction; the barge was sourced from New Orleans,[1] and the crane was the "Big Wolf" crane used at Highland Fabricators at Nigg Yard.[2]

Capacity[edit]

The Clyde Iron Works Model 52 crane can lift 500 short tons (454 t) using the main hoist on a 260-foot (79 m) boom at any point in the crane's revolution;[3] capacity rises to 700 short tons (635 t) when using the main hoist oriented astern. Motive power for the main hoist is provided by a diesel engine, and electric power for the barge is provided by a x KW diesel generator set.
