Article Evaluation: Child development

The article is very detailed, it has multiple different sections of child development ranging from aspects of life to risk factors. If I were to do an informative paper I would use this Wikipedia article as a reference because it's so detailed. There are a few things that distract me when I'm reading through the article: fonts are different sizes. I'm assuming that the font sizes might be for subcategories but I like when headings are all the same size.

I would have liked to have seen more information under the social emotional section instead of a link to a social emotional development. Although, I do think the article is very good about staying away from personal views or beliefs. If it were written off just anyone's beliefs it might say something like "vaccinations cause autism" but it sticks to what is proven. If there is a theory for a certain subject they make sure that you know that it is a theory.

When it comes to the amount of information in each subsections, I do think they could have had more information. Some sections only have a few sentences where more information could be added.

The links worked well, if it was a book it took to me to a scholar page where you could read an abstract and also buy the book if you'd like.

It has a lot of references so the few that I looked at weren't biased. They are scholar articles and books not a blog someone is writing about their own experiences.

Talk Page:

Only one comment on the talk page but it is a class C for Wikiproject medicine. The one comment was from a student that is editing for class just like we are.

Potential Topics:

LGBT marketing: It seems to be biased based on the few things it does point out. I think it needs talk more about the companies that have tried to incorporate LGBT parents or children. I'm very interested in this topic due to the fact that marketing is in our face all the time and I want to see how much marketing has changed over the past decade or so. I think we've really changed how we market and it's much more inclusive.

LGBT tourism: It needs to add more opportunities for people to know if its safe to travel there because some countries might have laws against LGBT community members. I would like to also see more of places where LGBT community members can feel like they can escape from their everyday lives and be accepted. I'm very interested in tourism since it is what I'm going to school for.

Judy Garland as gay icon: I think it needs more work, it doesn't have a lot of information. I'm interested in this topic because growing up my dad always loved Judy Garland and I couldn't understand what the significance was at the time.

Straight Ally- I think the article page should add a list of the terms people in the LGBT community are using so that if they would like to be an ally they can be more informed on the terminology. I also think a section about safe zones being added to colleges is something that should also be added. With adding the section on safe zones, allys can then be more informed on what is going in in colleges and if they want to get involved they then could. I am all about getting people involved and making sure they are up to date on the information. Additionally, I think the page needs to add the Straight Ally flag which was talked about on the talk page. I added a header for the organizations and activism so that the page flowed more. It looked like one massive clump and I wasn't a fan of that.

LGBT tourism- The headings should probably have more thought to them because one of them is called "gay tourism specialist" which I am not a fan of that name. People are trip planners or event planners. That will be changed when I make my edits for the page.

Changes to LGBT tourism

I changed the name of the a section that was called “gay tourism specialist” and now is called “tourism planners.”

Added the below information to the “LGBT Travel resources section”

The U.S. Department of State- Bureau of Consular Affairs now offers information about LGBTI travel and gives you tips about what you can do before traveling. It also gives you lots of good information about different issues you should have taken care of before traveling. If a LGBTI family is traveling together they provide a pocket book people can take with them on their trip to ensure they don't run into any issues.

I attempted to add a graphic into the page but due to licensing laws they wouldn't allow it.
