Carlos J. Miranda

Carlos Julio Miranda is a Cuban painter based in Toluca, México, who has dedicated his professional life to the visual arts, teaching, and graphic design. As a painter, he has participated in collective and individual exhibitions in his native country of Cuba, the United States and Mexico. His works were presented in March 2005 at the TasD Gallery in Miami, Florida, the Rotary Club of Matepec, in Toluca, Mexico in 2017, and in La Habana at the Pabellón Cuba in 1970.

Equestrian themes have been a constant in his work. Accentuating the anatomy, movement, elegance, and strength of the horse, irrespective of its breed, overtaking the canvas and coming to life with a proud and defiant expression.

About his passion for horses he wrote: “In life there are events that mark us forever, and I was not the exception. It was a summer day when as a child, I walked with my father along the Havana Malecón. There was a man with a beautiful white horse and for a few pennies allowed the children to take a short ride. After briefly riding this beautiful horse, it turned and looked at me. In its clear blue eyes, as blue as the sky of my homeland, I imagined ‘discovering’ a feeling of ‘eternal friendship’. That's where my great passion for horses comes from.”

As a profesor, he has taught at Universidad Latinoamericana, Universidad Chapultepec, Universidad Anáhuac, Campus Norte, Universidad Autónoma de Durango, Escuela Nacional de Artes Plásticas de la UNAM, Universidad Marista, Campus Tlahuac, and at the Instituto Tecnológico Latinoamericano de Pachuca in the state of Hidalgo, México.

His lectures include “Graphic Design and its Influence on Audiovisual Media”, “Design and Advertising in Media: Poster, Film, and Television”, “Art, Communication, and Media: Inevitable Convergence in Today’s Education”, “Professional Portfolio for Illustration”, and “Advertising and Social Values”.

Currently, Miranda teaches Communication Theory, Narrative and Kinetic Image, History of Design and Design Theory at the Universidad Marista, Campus Tlahuac, México City, Mexico while continuing his passion for painting.
