Dream Broker is a Helsinki-based online video software company that provides a cloud-based online video platform for enterprises and large organizations. Their customers utilize video within Communications, HR, IT and Business both internally and externally. Dream Broker's product is a browser-based software solution for the production, editing and distribution of online videos.[1] In December 2013, Dream Broker was chosen as Finland’s Growth Company of the Year.[2]

History[edit]

Dream Broker was founded in 2007 by Ari Heljakka, the current Chief Strategy Officer, and Ollipekka Aura, the first CEO. At first, the idea was to build a competitor to YouTube – however, that direction quickly changed and they decided to focus on the B2B market.[3] The company’s first product, Dream Screen, gained interest quickly and after just one year it had accumulated dozens of customers.[4]

In the spring of 2012 Dream Broker appointed Mika Ahokas to act as the company’s CEO. Mr. Ahokas had already cooperated with the company as an advisor and investor since its launch, and had been the Chairman of the Board since the beginning of 2011.[5] In the autumn of 2012 Dream Broker opened its first international office in Stockholm, Sweden.[6][7][8]

Later that year, Dream Broker was recognized by Deloitte as Finland’s fastest-growing technology company after growing 2,712 % between 2007 and 2011.[9][10] The following spring 2013, Dream Broker announced its expansion to Denmark and the opening of a new office in Copenhagen.[1] At the same time the company launched their new generation browser-based software for the production, editing, and distribution of online videos: Dream Broker Studio.

Soon after the launch, the company was chosen as the Red Herring Top100 Winner in Europe,[11] followed by Deloitte awarding the company the title of Finland’s third fastest-growing technology company with a growth rate of 2,231 %.[12]

In the autumn of 2013 they announced plans to open the third international office in Oslo, Norway, in addition to increasing their personnel by 40 %.[13] The year 2013 ended with Finnish IT Magazine Tietoviikko choosing Dream Broker as the Growth Company of the Year.[14] This was the second time in its history that this award has been given. The first winner was the mobile video game company Supercell.

Products[edit]

Dream Broker Studio[edit]

Dream Broker’s main product is Dream Broker Studio, a cloud-based software which allows every employee to create, edit and share online videos, both on the desktop and on mobile devices. The software includes functions to enable browser-based screen recordings, uploading of existing media files and shooting videos on mobile devices.

The cloud-based editing tool allows users to insert additional footage and add text, images and audio tracks to their video. It is possible to add company logos, pre-rolls and corporate theme music in order to apply company’s branding. It also supports multi-track editing so users can splice multiple B-rolls, with or without sound, into the primary video. Music can be edited on its own track.

The video publishing and sharing takes place via native channels, through which HTML5 and Flash video can be embedded with an automatically generated iframe code on websites, intranets and LMSs. The channels can be customized to look like the customer’s own brand, as they are white-labeled. Users’ videos are shared through an SSL connection. The latest update added support for single sign-on through Active Directory (such as Windows Azure), global distribution through Akamai’s content delivery network (CDN), and Microsoft SharePoint and WordPress integrations.[15]

In 2014 the company created and launched their mobile applications for iPhone, Android and Windows Phone which let all Dream Broker Studio users shoot, upload, share and view online videos via their smartphone. The videos are available from a cloud storage, from which they can be shared with contacts via email, text message and social media.
