QED: Question, Explore, Discover
[edit]QED is being organised by skeptics volunteers and any proceeds go back into the even or a charity. On the "Token Skeptic" podcast[1] Michael Marshall said, "How we try to always pitch it and how we try and run it is - it's all about the skeptical community. Because its being run by people who are just part of that community who are doing this because we really love it, the atmosphere, seems to be, of people coming together. It's kind of a big party, a celebration of UK skepticism and also international skepticism".
Bad PR
[edit]Below are some quotes about Michael Marshall's website and Bad PR company that he runs. Not sure if it can be used on Merseyside Skeptic Society WP page under a separate heading may be?...
Michael Marshall is writing a blog about bad pr [2] . Marshall said, "I've always being really interested in exploring areas of skepticism that people might not have necessarily considered to be a core skeptical topics. Looking at how much of the news is actually nonsense is something that a lot of people do but don't really commit to. So people say "Oh you can't believe what you read in the press" but they won't really commit to that they will still believe the next thing they read". "I have set up the site to have all in one place a nice easy referenced to demonstrate the sheer volume and the weight[1]".
Marshall is looking at different researches, tests, polls, articles that are printed daily in several national newspapers and magazines and tries to identify the ones that are misrepresenting the reality and providing false claims. From October 2013 Marshall started putting three stories a day on the blog that demonstrate bad PR and uncover false claims.
