Karl van Bibber is an American professor of Nuclear Engineering and a Particle Physicist at the University of California, Berkeley. Professor van Bibber founder the Physics and Accelerator technology group at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Livermore, California and later served as its chief scientist in 2001. He was the deputy director of the laboratory science and technology office. During his time in LLNL, he was awarded the director's distinguished performance award, deputy secretary's award and S and T awards. In 2009, he became the vice president and dean of research at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California. In 2012, he moved to University of California, Berkeley as a faculty at the department of Nuclear Engineering. He served as the department's chair until 2023. Professor van Bibber lives in Berkeley, California.
