Anne Drummond is a professional American musician, performing on the flute and piano She first became interested in music at a very young age and studied classical piano throughout her young years. It wasn't until she reached New York that she began performing the flute and that became her main instrument, receiving awards and accolades that has made her one of the most in demand Jazz flute players of her time (see discography).
Biography[edit]
Born in Seattle, Washington she has referenced being fortunate enough to have a career that spans the multiple genres of Jazz, Classical music, Music of Brazil and Rock music. Relocating to New York City to study piano performance at the Manhattan School of Music is where she met Kenny Barron and later toured throughout Europe with his band, Canta Brasil. This changed the course of her career where she focused primarily on flute and composition.
She continues to work with the younger generations of musicians, serving as an Adjunct faculty at the School of Jazz (The New School), she has taught at the Manhattan School of Music, conducted masterclasses at Black Hawk College, Utah Valley University and the University of Louisville. Her dedication to learning goes even further with her work with Dr. Don Robin and Dr. Amy Ramage on furthering research into musical improvisation and the brain. [1] Her visits to the University of New Hampshire allows her to work directly with the students in various charter schools in the area of Durham, New Hampshire.
She has been featured on other notable recordings with Stefon Harris, Avishai Cohen, Bobby Hutchinson, Ravi Coltrane, Conor Oberst and Ian Anderson. Her most recent projects include collaborations with harpist Brandee Younger, Nilson Matta, Victor Gould and Meg Okura. She has also recently produced the latest album for vocalist, Hiromi Suda.
