Sigma Kappa Upsilon Mu is a fraternity charter founded in October 13 1981 at Michigan Technological University in Houghton Michigan.

Overview

Sigma Kappa Upsilon Mu’s constitution was submitted to the dean of students, Harold Messe, who ratified it. Sigma Kappa Upsilon Mu was founded by the following twelve men: James Haferkorn, Kent Klausner, John Chapman, Jim Ply, Jeffry Parks, Mike Mallos, Paul Van Riper, Rick Michaels, Tim Lodge, Joe Rokosz, Paul Brewer, Scott Muller.

History

Michigan technological University in Houghton Michigan was the first college to accept Sigma Kappa Upsilon Mu as a fraternal ‘No-Frills’ original organization. The main incentives that Sigma Kappa Upsilon Mu offers over other Fraternities is “greater affordability and less stringent obligations”. Sigma’s describe themselves as a group striving for loyal brotherhood that isn’t overly strict, this would be more accurate than calling them a fraternity (as traditional stigma’s emanate).


Objective

Our objective is to be known as a brotherhood consisting of individuals who do not consider themselves superior to the average college student. This elite group maintains that a common unity is necessary to sustain and uphold certain beliefs, foremost of which is no man can attain his ultimate potential alone and this unity will bring forth the qualities necessary to reach this potential spiritually, mentally and physically. The Sigma Kappa Upsilon Mu’s philosophy dictates a balanced lifestyle. Sigma’s would like to maintain respectable grades while indulging their personal and collective interests. This would include community service, help sessions and professional discourses on a variety of subjects.

The symbols and insignia of Sigma Kappa Upsilon Mu are direct representation of our values and interpersonal relationships with our brotherhood.

Colors: Sigma Kappa Upsilon Mu’s colors are Cherry Red and Black

Animal: Elephant

Crest: The Sigma Kappa Upsilon Mu crest reflects aspects of our brotherhood and is only revealed during the ceremony of initiation.

Our organization’s active members are encouraged to participate in community service and will be guided by an elected position. these include:
