David V. Shatz[edit]

Dr. David Vernon Shatz (born July 20, 1954) is an American trauma surgeon and professor of surgery who is best known for his work in disaster response and research on the immunology of the spleen.

Personal Life & Education[edit]

Shatz was born in Glendale, CA to Vernon and Marilyn, and is a graduate of Crescenta Valley High School in Los Angeles. He received his Bachelor Bacteriology from the University of California at Los Angeles in 1977.
He and his wife Janice have a daughter, Nikki, and twin sons, Connor and Justin.

He is a member of the California State Trauma Advisory Committee, contributing to the 2014 California Statewide Trauma Plan.

Disaster Response[edit]

In addition to his work in surgical medicine, Dr. Shatz is a nationally recognized expert in disaster response with over twenty years of experience working in the federal search and rescue system.
