Most service employees in Mexico do not make very much money at all. Their minimum wage is quite low. Some employees do not even earn a wage at all, so the tips they make is the majority of their income. The tipping guide in Mexico, is usually known to be the same guide as in the United States and Canada. The best place to change your US dollars to Mexican Pesos is at a “Casa de Cambio”. They usually have the best rates compared to bank rates, though they are open shorter hours. Another place to change is right at the airport in Mexico when you arrive or return the unused pesos when you leave.

While dining in a restaurant, you should be aware that the wait staff will not bring your check until you ask for it. The reason behind this is so that you don’t feel rushed. The tip given should be about 15%-20%.

HOUSEKEEPER - $3 to $5 per person staying in room, per day left on the pillow everyday

TOUR AND ACTIVITY GUIDES - $5 per pseron or 15-20% tour cost

CAR WATCHING & PARKING ASSISTANCE: 50 cents to a dollar

VALET PARKING: $1 to $2

GAS STATION ATTENTDANTS: Pemex stations in Mexico are full service. Tip the attendant who pumps your gas and cleans your windshield 50 cents to $1. Tip more if the attendant also checks your vehicle's tire pressure, oil levels, etc.
