Zoulikha Tahar

[edit]

Zoulikha Tahar also know by her artist name 'Toute Fine' (born 15 August 1992 in Oran, Algeria), is an Algerian feminist, poet, slam poet, and self-taught videographer. She's a PhD student in Mechanics of Materials at the Djillali Liabes University in Sidi Bel Abbès. [1]

Career

[edit]

Tahar started writing under the pseudonym 'Toute Fine' in 2015.

In 2017, Tout fine became famous thanks to a co-directed short film, with Sam MB, dealing with the topic of street harassment. The short film titled 'La Rue' (The Street)[2] garnered a lot of attention.[3][4] The short film has been screened in several cultural and activist events. The screening of the short film 'La Rue', took place at the Toulouse Labor Exchange, as well as, he Algeria en Mouvement festival, in Paris. The short film sparked a debate on the place that women hold in the pubic space during the Algeria en Mouvement festival.

Tahar published in October 2017, with the contribution of the French Institute of Oran, a collection of poetry titled 'Presque Deux' (Almost Two), which is a reconstruction compiled of photos and texts, of the first two years since of the creation of Toute Fine on social media.

In November 2017, Tout Fine adapted their collection into a show and presented it for the first time in Paris, at the Théâtre de la Nouvelle Seine. The also gave a screening of the show at the French Institute of Annaba, Algeria, in March 2018.

The show is titled 'Autour de Presque Deux' (Around Almost Two). The premise of the show is to, go around to meeting the public, and is followed by a debate on the many themes it addresses. The primary objective of the show is the release, circulation and sharing of speech.

Tahar presented at the Arab World Institute, a performance/installation titled 'de Paris à Oran - dialogue entre deux cultures' (From Paris to Oran, a dialogue between two cultures); two cities with cultural differences but whom are more connected by a shared history.[5] The installation represents the challenges of wanting to connect with Eddy Terki, whom is a Franco-Algerian graphic designer. Tahar said the following during an interview for the blog of the Arab World Institute: "This project is a dialogue, a bridge between two people, one living in Oran and the other in Paris. This bridge will come alive at the Arab World Institute, through the physical interpretation of a text that will connect two columns of the hypostyle hall."[6]

Tahar as Toute Fine, organizes many writing workshops, sometimes with the French Institute of Oran. Tahar also organizes literary meetings, debates and readings, mainly focussing on the topic of feminism.
