The London Business School RFC is a rugby union team based at London Business School in London, England. The club competes in the annual MBA Rugby World Championship in NC, USA and is composed of London Business School students, faculty, staff and partners.

History

LBS Rugby began shortly after the school was founded in 1964. It is one of the premier MBA rugby clubs in the world, having won the MBA World Cup in 1999 and 2010. The club has a long tradition of international touring, including annual trips to France, the USA and a rotating tropical destination. Since its inception, more than 1000 men have played for LBS Rugby.

The Rugby Club is easily the most active club at London Business School. With over 120 members and an active alumni network, the club welcomes players of all abilities and currently has participants from Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Canada, England, France, Germany, India, Ireland, Japan, Lebanon, New Zealand, Scotland, The United States and Wales.

LBS RFC begins each year with an "immersion" phase during the first-year pre-programme courses in August and September, and everyone is welcome regardless of experience. The official season begins in October with training sessions and fixtures in Regents Park . Some of the planned events for this year include:

  • Social Events: Pubgolf, pub nights, volunteering events and much more!
  • Sponsor and Alumni Networking: Matches and socials and networking receptions are organised with our sponsors, alumni, major companies and professionals.
  • Winter Tour: A trip to Hong Kong for game time and relaxation.
  • MBA Rugby World Cup at Duke: An annual tournament against other MBA rugby clubs. In 2010 the LBS RFC returned the winning cup to London for the first time since 1999!
  • The London Business School Tournament: Since 2005 the club has hosted hundreds of players from around the world at an annual weekend-long tournament.

Alumni

Since establishment in the 1970s, the LBS RFC Alumni have been the largest alumni network on campus. The Alumni club exists for three primary purposes:

  • To compete against the students in the annual Alumni match
  • To organise the annual LBS RFC Alumni tour
  • For the purposes of formal and informal networking between Alumni and with current students
