Biography

[edit]

Born in Lancashire, United Kingdom in 1968, Neil D Fogarty is a business author, speaker, advisor and consultant. He is founder of Neil Fogarty International – a business growth consultancy working in the UK, Europe and North Africa. He is currently based in the United Kingdom but travels widely as part of his speaking to support the publication of his first book, 'Kill Your Salesman’ and the research for his second book, ‘Sales E&E’.

Career

[edit]

Schooled in Walsall, Fogarty originally worked in the Information Technology sector until beginning work in recruitment consultancy in 1989.

Working with Small and medium enterprises (SMEs), he progressed from being a Consultant to owning his own practice, Mosaic Associates in 1996. A multi-disciplined professional services company, Mosaic comprised a software house, an Interim management service provider, a Management consulting company and an IT recruitment company. Headquartered in the UK, Mosaic had offices in Cape Town, Amsterdam and Mayfair, facilitating Clients in UK, USA, Netherlands, South Africa, Germany and Austria.

Upon dismantling and selling off the component business units in 2000, he then set up Neil Fogarty International in order to provide consultancy services to SMEs in the area of Business Growth.

Between 1993, he has consulted with and presented to over 1,000 owners of SMEs which has helped form such innovative approaches to business as ‘the spirituality of business’ where he encourages organisations to consider the holistic impact of what they do; ’business inversion’ where the owner of the business is encouraged to turn it all upside down; and the construction of Business Growth Frameworks.

Spirituality of Business

[edit]

Fogarty’s personal interests include pranayama yoga as well as self development through neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) and he started to introduce the idea of ‘business yoga’ to companies as a way to look at the inner belief systems, values and morals of the organisation. Using a number of tools, methods and approaches in workshops and 1-1, he laid the foundations for the introduction of his performance methodology, SP4 (Subject, Particulars, Perception, Planning and Performance) with an emphasis on the ecology of corporate and personal targets.

Business Inversion

[edit]

With one of his businesses focusing on effective Change Management, Fogarty read widely on such experts as Harvard School Professor John Kotter and his thoughts on the 8-Step Change Model. Blending this with his own views on ‘business yoga’, Fogarty’s first book, ‘Kill Your Salesman’, considered ‘stickiness’ of any and all business activities as only being achievable through full people engagement.

As part of his self-development, Fogarty became interested in Performance Coaching – working with individuals and teams to improve their performance and to ensure that it is in a way that is congruent to their beliefs and lifestyle.

Business Growth Frameworks

[edit]

It is Fogarty’s contention that every business has a Business Growth Framework – a structure by which their business grows. The effectiveness of the Framework dictates the growth. With over 20 years of working in business, coupled with almost 2,000 hours of consultations, he designed the methodology by which a business can take a snapshot of the Framework and then set out a structured plan for ‘survive & thrive’.

The theory behind the Business Growth Framework, coupled with effective Performance Management through SP4 is explored in his second book, ‘Sales E&E’ which is due for publication in June 2009.

His Works

[edit]

In 1996 Fogarty developed his first business methodology based upon Ray Hammond’s book, Digital Business where Mosaic Associates was a Shared Service Centre to the component business units.

In 2000, Fogarty designed and wrote the methodology, IM2: an approach for recruitment organisations to build quickly presence and business in new sectors. This has been modified and expanded and is still part of his work to date.

Writing articles for the UK and European trade press as well as blogs led Fogarty to author the article ‘Kill Your Salesman’ in 2006, on how SMEs can ‘do sales’ without the need for a sales team. This evolved into him spending 2007 writing the book which was finally released in 2008.

As part of the writing for ‘Sales E&E’, he sets out the approaches for SP4 as well as the design and construct of Business Growth Frameworks.

His Speaking

[edit]

With so much emphasis on presentation, Fogarty has been speaking publicly since 1993. Originally with a focus purely on content as opposed to style-and-content, his original presentations were seen to be rather heavy and difficult to absorb. Over the years, his style has developed with an acknowledgement to the various comedians and entertainers that he admires (namely Bill Hicks and Jack Dee).

Fogarty now runs seminars, chairs as well as hosts workshops, and is a keynote speaker.

Personal Life

[edit]

Neil’s 19-year relationship with Lucy ended in 2007 but he remains near to both her and their three daughters in the UK.
