John Groves (* 9. August 1953 in Hamburg) ist a composer and music producer for advertisements and sonic communication, as well as a leading consultant in the area of audio branding.

Biography[edit]

John Groves was born in Hamburg on the 9th of August 1953 as the son of British parents. He grew up in Slough, England. At the end of the 1970s, he moved to Sweden, where he made his first foray into the area of music production for advertisements. In 1983, he moved to Hamburg and founded the firm, GROVES Sound Communications. In 1985, he was consulting for the WDR (West German Radio) and the NDR (North German Radio) and developed unique sonic identities for them. In 1988, he developed Sound Branding for DEA. He is also the President of the (CC) Composers Club e.V.[1][2][3]

Advertising[edit]

John Groves has been actively producing music for advertising since the 1980s. Alongside orchestral works for Berliner Kindl and the 25th anniversary of Audi Quattro, he's written brand themes for firms such as DEA, VISA, Bacardi, bonprix, Mentos, Melitta, Bitburger and Wrigley’s, among others.

Sound Branding[edit]

Groves has been active in the area of Sound Branding since the early 1990s. He has developed and realised Sonic Identities for EnBW, LBS, Winterthur Versicherung, Austrian Airlines and koelnmesse. He has held workshops and consulted for brands such as Mercedes-Benz, T-Com and the Volksbank Raiffeisenbank.[4]

John Groves appears regularly as a lecturer at the Hamburg School of Ideas, at the Miami Ad School as well as at many Universities and technical colleges in Germany and the rest of Europe.

In 2003, he produced a CD featuring the music of Vicky Leandros, sung by Mikis Theodorakis with the Camerata Orchestra in Megaron.

In 1996, the song Heard it all before, written by Groves, was sung by Al Jarreau at one of Sir Peter Ustinov's Galas. In the same year, Groves also write the musical "Edgerounder"
