Harry Williams, principal at Holywood Primary School and former coach of Bangor RFC, was appointed new Ulster coach in February 1987, in place of the departing Jimmy Davidson. Selection panel consisted of Williams, Jim Stevenson, Neil Jackson, Harry McKibbin and John Paul, with sub-selectors Dermot McKee and David Heron.[1]
