Tom Steigerwald

Thomas J. Steigerwald (September 2, 1945 - June 09, 2011), formerly known as Tom, is a Philadelphia Native local artist known for his masterful trompe l’oel botanical paintings of the flowers he loved. He was a man with tremendous talent who mastered his craft and created exquisite paintings. For those who loved him, he was much more than just an incredible painter. He was someone with great compassion and love for all. In the 70s, he taught art and English to foreigners and immigrants alike --- impacting their lives into their future. He possessed a keen intellect with an eclectic taste for the finest things in life, enjoying everything from “shaggy dog” stories to classical music. He wore suspenders and was rarely seen without a vest and tie. The whole effect recalled someone from the early 19th century. As we say now he was the “whole package.” [1]
