This page was a questionnaire for a failed 2012 project to investigate "civility" on Wikipedia. Having recently been reminded of it, I think I would probably respond differently in some parts. The page now serves no purpose is now a repository for stolen quotes on the general subject.

The civility rules in Wikipedia are mainly a weapon to use to gain the upper hand over someone who holds a viewpoint you would prefer to suppress, and they continue to be used for that purpose.

When people keep talking about what would be allowed "at work", they usually mean (American) white-collar office culture, which is masterful at passive-aggressiveness and political infighting and vicious "incivility" that never needs even a single four-letter word. I'm not sure it'd be an upgrade.

Not interested in deck-chair rearranging. The problem here is governance and ideology. "Civility" is part of a game for kids.

It needs to be pointed out ... that low level insults, like implying another editor is deceptive, are personal attacks far more toxic than "Fuck off, troll".
