Purpose[edit]
Table Law enforcement agency powers provides a standardised table to present the powers and law exemptions held by a law enforcement agency. It is recommended that it be placed in a section of its own, perhaps followed by any relevant encyclopedic explanatory material.
The template:
- introduces the table by describing generally what LEA powers and law exemptions are. See the examples below.
- automatically links to the relevant articles for each power.
- categorises the agency for each power or law exemption the agency has.
Automatic linking[edit]
Links are automatically provided from each power title in the table to the relevant main encyclopedic article for the power.
Automatic categorisation[edit]
This template automatically categorises the article it is placed into. An including article will be categorised into one or more of:
These categories will be set if the law enforcement agency's relevant power parameter values are used in the template.
Deficiencies[edit]
Parameters[edit]
The template does not check that there is at least one power parameter provided. It is possible to produce an empty table.
Usage[edit]
The following skeleton can be copied and edited into an article. For a description of each parameter, see Template parameters, below.
Repeat the parameter list for each power the LEA has. Replace the 'power' prefix with the relevant prefix from the list of prefixes provided below for each power or law exemption the LEA has.
The skeleton contains some abbreviations for the sake of brevity and these are not actual wiki text. Accordingly, they need to be edited or removed as follows:
- Remove the ' . . up to N' comments altogether.
- Remove the ' . . for each power' comment altogether.
See the examples below for how the skeleton will look after being copied and edited.
