Early Life[edit]

Simon was born in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, and attended Berkhamsted High School, a private/independent school. It was here that he met fellow Sidemen member KSI, initially having a strong hatred towards each other, causing a 'fight' to ensue. Teachers forced them into a friendship and Simon helped out JJ when he needed a cameraman for filming for JJ's channel. Simon achieved one A*, two A's and nine B's in his GCSE's in 2009. However, he failed to get good A-Level results in 2011 so didn't manage to get into his preferred university. He ended up taking a gap year in the 2011–2012 academic year and even travelled to Ghana for two months when he was 19 to teach football to the locals. In the summer of 2012, Simon went traveling around the East Coast of America and stayed in six states.

Upon returning to the UK the next month, Simon went onto to attend Hull University studying Criminology, but later dropped out to focus on his YouTube career.[3]

Career[edit]

Simon began his work in the YouTube world by starting a role as KSI's cameraman and additional extra throughout his videos. Through this work, Simon met TBJZL and Zerkaa through KSI whilst filming a video for him in London in November 2012, in which the four of them went out for a meal and all got on well. Due to this, and KSI's successful channel that he was involved in, Simon ended up creating and he posted his first video, on 7 December 2012, named "FUT: Winning the gold cup (part 1)".

His channel name is derived from his surname, 'Minter', and 'mini' due to his height during his childhood. It also has references to him being the youngest out of 3 brothers.

In April 2013, he collaborated for the first time with Deji, KSI's younger brother.[4]

His popularity grew throughout the gaming scene, in which he posted mainly FIFA videos on his main channel, with notable series as 'Your Ultimate Team' and 'Bros Gonna Bro' with TBJZL.

In late-2013, he began his second channel, named MM7Games, in which he began posting non-FIFA videos, in games like Grand Theft Auto V and Cards Against Humanity among others. In these Grand Theft Auto V videos, Simon began playing with TBJZL, Zerkaa, KSI and other UK YouTuber Behzinga. Zerkaa had met Behzinga by watching his livestream and invited him to play with them. This is where the term 'Sideman' began, in which due to their childhood friendships, Tobi was Josh's sideman and Simon was JJ's sideman, and on 19 October 2013, the YouTube group, The Sidemen, were formed.[5]

In February 2014, he moved into the first Sidemen house alongside Zerkaa, Vikkstar123 and KSI. In November 2014, he achieved 1 million subscribers on YouTube on his main channel.

In late-2016, he moved into the second Sidemen house alongside the original house members. On August 12, 2017, he entered the 'Sidemen Beef' with a diss track on Deji, someone who he once shared friendship with, named 'KSI'S LITTLE BROTHER' and became his highest viewed video. As of December 2022, the video has 69.2 million views.[6]

In late 2010's he began to start declining the amount of videos posted on his channels, going from one a day on his main channel to around once or twice a month, and on his second channel he has gone from two videos a day to one video a day.

In late-2018, he created, alongside fellow YouTuber and rapper, Randolph, a podcast named "What's Good".[7]

In early-2019 he moved into London, with KSI, ending the 5 year period living with Vikk and Josh.

In May 2022, he hit 10 million subscribers on his main channel, the third Sideman to amass this figure on their main channel.[8]

Charity Work[edit]

In June 2016, Simon, alongside the rest of the Sidemen, played in a charity football match as team SDMN FC, against YouTube All-Stars, at St. Mary's Stadium, Southampton. In this game, he scored a hattrick, and they raised over £100,000 for Special Effects and the Saints Foundation.[9]

The following year, in May 2017, they played another charity match against the YouTube All-Stars, but this time at the Valley, home of Charlton Athletic. In this game, the YouTube All-Stars won 2-0, and took home the trophy. They raised money for Charlton Athletic Community Trust and Childline.[10]

In 2018, Simon opened M7 Education, alongside his brother Nick, a non-profit organisation that provides schools with the ability to go on school trips to help with development outside the classroom, by organising paperwork and the finance to be able to provide these trips.

Later that year, they played another charity match to complete a trilogy. This was again played at the Valley Stadium in June 2018. The match finished 7-1 to SDMN FC, where Simon scored another hattrick. This time they raised over £63,000 for Charlton Athletic Community trust and Youngminds.[11]

In September 2022, the Sidemen played another charity match, again at the Valley Stadium, Charlton. This time notable YouTubers and other Internet Personalities from abroad joined in, including MrBeast, Chris Tyson, Noah Beck, iShowSpeed among others. The match ended 8-7 to SDMN FC, going behind 7 times in the game, yet still going on to win, in which Simon scored another hattrick and racked up 3 assists, eventually scoring the winner which was a long range chipped shot that looped over goalkeeper Cal the Dragon. The charities involved this year were CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably), Teenage Cancer Trust, Rays of Sunshine, and M7Education. The match generated over £1,000,000[12], the most that any YouTube charity event has raised.

Other Ventures[edit]

In 2014, as a part of the Sidemen, he opened Sidemen Clothing to sell merchandise based on the Sidemen, which has now evolved into a clothing line[13]. Simon used his knowledge he gained through selling KSI's clothing line called BEAST, in which he mainly packaged and sold during its production.

In 2016, as a part of the Sidemen, Simon co-wrote 'Sidemen: The Book' alongside the six other members in the group, which became number one bestseller in the UK.

In 2021, as a part of the Sidemen, he was a co-founder of Sides, a restaurant that serves a variety of fried-chicken dishes, opened in BOXPARK, London and in Dubai, UAE.[14]

In 2021, as a part of the Sidemen, he was a co-founder of XIX Vodka, a premium vodka company[15]. In late-2022, XIX became available in Morrisons Supermarkets across the UK.

Personal Life[edit]

Simon is the youngest out of three brothers, with the middle brother, Nick, appearing in some of Simon's videos.

Simon is currently engaged[16] to Musician and fellow Twitch Streamer Talia Mar. They were dating for 5 years from late-2017 after meeting at Wireless Festival through mutual friend TBJZL. Talia has featured in many videos across his channels, with a series on his second channel every Tuesday.

Simon is a Leeds United fan, stating that it is due to his mother's side of the family are from Leeds.
