In the first period of his adolescence he lived in Pescara, Reggio Emilia,Sondrio and Parma; this last city has an important value in his life since here he met Padre Molin Mosè Pradel, thanks to whom he experienced the meeting with Christ for the first time in his life. God, The Christ ( he would always name him with the article) was something really important for Giancarlo.[4]

He had a lot of passions among which ping pong, the love for travelling, fishing, he used to spend three months during summer at Polesine Parmense in his grandparents house and another important passion was his interest in nature, considered as an expression of God and as a consequence he loved trekking and skiing. But certainly the biggest passion was the love for mankind.

He married on August 10th in 1964 Anna Anghileri of Sondrio who had met while skiing in Bormio. On July in 1965 Antonella Rastelli was born; now she’s a Golden doctor at St. Louis Missouri of the hospital of Washington. [5]

An important bond that characterised Giancarlo's life was his friendship with Vincenzo Ferioli, they met at the university and the similarity of their lives will still continue after the death of these two friends since they received the same international recognitions and both of them were buried in the university chapel in Parma, ad honorem.
