Horatio Sinbad (Born c. 1940) is Privateer licensed by the State of North Carolina. Born in Detroit, Michigan, Sinbad is now based in Beaufort, North Carolina where he lives aboard his ship the Meka II. He purpose-built the ship, a Brigatine, at the age of 24 in his Detroit backyard. The ship was launched in 1967 into the Great Lakes, where Sinbad sailed for three years before venturing into the Atlantic Ocean via the St. Lawrence Seaway. Today, Sinbad and the Meka II are based in Beaufort, North Carolina and participate in reenactments in Canada, the U.S. East Coast, and the Caribbean.[1] Sinbad received a commission on 22 March 2005 from Governor Michael Easley to be a licensed privateer in the State of North Carolina.[2]
