Plunet BusinessManager is a web-based business and translation management system, developed by Plunet GmbH, a software company headquartered in Germany. The functionalities of Plunet BusinessManager cover the full project and business management workflow to cater companies operating in the language industry. The software handles operational and strategic business tasks, including quote and order generation, workflow and deadline management, vendor search and assignment, invoice creation for clients and vendors , financial reporting, productivity management, quality management, contact management as well as customer relationship and sales management.[1]

Plunet BusinessManager is a project management tool certified in accordance with EN 15038:2006-08-01, ISO 9001:2008 and the future standard ISO 17100. Translation service providers can implement all requirements contained in the certification.[2]

History

In 2003,Plunet BusinessManager was developed by the software company Plunet GmbH. [3] envisioning the need for a translation management software. In 2009, Plunet becomes a registered trademark [4]in the United States and Europe. A study conducted by the Association of Language Companies says, Plunet Business Manager was the most used management system among its associate members [5] in 2012.

Users

Plunet BusinessManager is mostly used by companies in the translation and localization industry. Users include project managers, supervisors, internal and external vendors, translation buyers, interpreters, as well as sales and account managers of enterprises and language service departments. The process is converted into a workflow in Plunet BusinessManager and project managers use this workflow for the creation, assignment, management and delivery of projects.[6]

Technology

Plunet BusinessManager builds on web-based technologies like JAWA, HTML, JavaScript, GWT and Ajax. The software runs on a tomcat server which is a server of the Apache software foundation[7][8]. Data transfers can be made accessible via HTTP or encrypted HTTPS protocols. Authorization and access rights are managed via user groups and individual right settings per user. [9]

An open source system, My SQL is used for data management in Plunet BusinessManager. Plunet allows data hosting on a separate file server, independent of the database[9]

Plunet can be hosted on a clients server SaaS solution[10], but software as a server (SaaS)solutions are also available. It is multilingual and has a multitenant architecture.

The system requirements for a server hosting Plunet Business Manager include:

Processor: quad-core CPU

RAM: 8192 MB or more

Hard disk: 7200 rpm or faster

Required hard disk space: approx. 500 MB (excl. project data)

Operating system: all MS Windows operating systems (x86 and x64); recommended: Windows Server 2012R2

Browser: optimized for Microsoft Internet Explore [8]
