Axolotl by Julio Cortazar is a short Science Fiction piece where the narrator becomes so engulged in life of an amphibian that by the end of the sotry, gas a strong connection with the Axolots. The Journey starts out with the narrator reflecting on the first times he ever saw an Axolot. He visited the aquarium everyday and was at first taken aback by the sight of what the creature could be. He was scared of the creature and made very rash judgements about where the creature was from and what the purpose of the creature was. His description of an Axolotl is real. Axolotls have human like fingernails, no eyelids, are born in their adult stage, and are lizard like of about 6-inches with a long tail. After visiting the aquarium day in and night out, the narrator starts to connect with them. This is seen when he states, "We don't moving around too much, and the aquarium is so cramped." At the beginning of the story the narrator claims that he is an Axolotl and takes us through time to see his transformation from a noisy human to a creature so exotic and majextic in mind and spirit.
