Mgr. Jakub Kroulík is a Czech professional hypnotist, mentalist and rational thaumaturgist. He is the winner in the category, Manipulation at the Czech Championship of Modern Magic and the holder of the award for Merits in the promotion of modern magical art. [2] He is a co-author of the Paranormal Challenge project of the Czech Skeptics' Club Sisyfos, on which he has been actively cooperating with the Sisyphus since 2013.

He lectures on hypnosis, mind reading, lie techniques and fraudulent games to university students, the public and the police. [5] [6]

Professional career

Since 2007 he has been lecturing for the police and security agencies on the following topics: The Anatomy of Lies, How to Read the Human Mind, Techniques of Fraudulent Games, Opportunity Makes Thieves. [4] [6]

Since 2013 has been providing expert supervision of the fairness of experiments testing claims of supernatural abilities by Czech Skeptics' Club Sisyfos, the so-called Paranormal Challenge, a project that follows on from the European The Sisyphus Prize and the American One Million Dollar Paranormal Challenge by James Randi. ] [14] As part of the Paranormal Challenge project, in 2014-2015 he participated in the special event TREZOR (Vault) Paranormal Challenge. Together with journalist Leoš Kyša and patron Václav Dejčmar, he was directly the person who inserted his own "mysterious" object into a vault displayed in a Prague shopping center, which psychotronics or clairvoyants had to guess. In 2016, he participated as a professional consultant for the No Science association for the Experiment Coincidence project, which aimed to examine whether it was possible to influence the dice by mere desire. [19]

In 2017, he demonstrated "Exorcism by Hypnosis" at the European Skeptics Congress in Wrocław, together with a rational explanation, and illustrated his claims with practical examples. [20] [21] In the same year, as a mentalist in a live broadcast on Czech Television, he guessed the content of a locked safe. [22]

In 2018, he gave his hypnotic interactive lecture in the large cinema hall of Prague's Lucerna Palace, exactly 90 years after Hanussen's similar lecture, and demonstrated to the public selected hypnotic phenomena, including a demonstration of falling in love on command. [23] [24]

In 2019, he became a professional consultant and also one of the three main protagonists of the Czech-Slovak television documentary series Investigators, devoted to the current controversial scientific or pseudoscientific topics and esoteric phenomena. [25]

Early life and education

Jakub Kroulík was born in Rtyně v Podkrkonoší in Czech Republic. [4]
He studied at the Czech Technical University in Prague. In 2020, he graduated with honors at the Hussite Theological Faculty of Charles University, majoring in theology, religious studies, and defended his dissertation entitled "The Development of the Understanding of Suggestion throughout History". [1] [7]
In his work, he was the first Czech author to point out that the perception of hypnosis as an altered state of consciousness is, according to current scientific knowledge, an invalid paradigm, although hypnosis is still described in this way in the Czech academic space. [8] [9] [10] At the same time, he recalled that hypnosis, suggestions, religion, and folk superstition have a deep relationship that is often neglected or delayed in contemporary academic discourse, both religious and psychological. [9]
He gained practical experience with magical art and hypnosis under the expert guidance of Josef Holub, the Czech micromagic master. [11] [12
