Krishna-Bhima Stabilization project consists of six link components and is designed to transfer 3256 Mm3 of surplus flood waters by gravity from various rivers/streams viz. Kumbhi, Kasari, Warna, Koyna & Panchaganga in Upper Krishna sub-basin of Krishna basin through a series of links to cater to the needs of :

• Needy lift irrigation schemes in Upper Krishna sub-basin • Enriching the command areas of existing Nira and Ujjani projects in Upper Bhima sub-basin and • Meeting the requirement of new command areas in Upper Bhima sub-basin.

The scheme would benefit water short areas in the parts of Pune, Satara, Sangli, Beed, Osmanabad and Solapur districts in Upper Krishna and Upper Bhima sub-basins. The project consists of eleven parts. While the first six parts are primarily water transfer links by gravity, parts 7 to 11 are mainly utilization schemes through introduction of certain lift irrigation schemes using existing reservoirs / canal systems.
