Ken Rizer (born September 17, 1964) is the Iowa State Representative from the 68th District. A Republican, he has served in the Iowa House of Representatives since 2013.

As of October 2013, Rizer serves on several committees in the Iowa House – the Commerce, Judiciary, and Human Resources committees. He also serves as the vice chair of the Appropriations committee.

He was born in Rochester, MN and lives in Cedar Rapids, IA.

Biography

Representative Ken Rizer was first elected to the Iowa House in 2014 and served House District 68, which includes Marion, Bertram, Ely, and surrounding parts of Linn County.

Rizer was born on September 17, 1961 in Rochester, MN. He attended the Minneapolis School District in St. Paul, MN where he graduated from Minneapolis Southwest High School in 1983.

He went on to attend the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO, where he graduated in 1987 with a BS in Foreign Affairs and recognition as a top graduate in Political Science. In 1986, he was a Barry Goldwater Scholar to Georgetown University’s Institute on Comparative Political and Economic Systems, during which time he served as a U.S. House of Representatives intern. Selected as an Olmsted Scholar in 1998, he learned Swedish at the U.S. State Department’s Foreign Service Institute prior to studying International Security at the University of Stockholm, Sweden. He completed an M.S. with Highest Academic Distinction in Strategic Studies at Air University’s Air War College, as well as an MPA in Leadership, Politics, and National Security from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government, and an MBA from the University of Iowa.
