Deora also written as Devda or Devra,is the name of the branch of Chauhan clan of Rajputs of Rajasthan (Rajputana). And they are Agnivanshi and there is a story behind this related to Mount Abu Mountain.Devda Rajputs ruled Gorwar region of North India.Chauhans are known for their bravery and valour against Sultan Allaudin Khilji and Mohammad Gouri.Rulers of Chandravati and Sirohi belonged to Devda clan.

HISTORY:

According to the ancestral texts of Devda Rajputs,they are descendants of Rao Lakhan of Nadol in the Marwar area of Rajasthan.According to the history or texts it is said that the queen of Rao Lakhan was kind,beautiful and generous like a Devi or Goddess,so her son's were called as Devi ra,which means Goddesses or Devi's son's. Later this became Devra,Devda or Deora.And the Devda Rajput's kuldevi is Maa Aashapura situated in Nadol.The Devda's of Sirohi have a glorious past and have a respected place in the history.

The Chauhans or Chahmans ruled Delhi,Ajmer,Jalore and Surrounding areas during the era of King Prithviraj Chauhan.

Sirohi region was never controlled by any foreign powers may it Britisher's or Mughals because of the brave, courageous Devda Rajput rulers.Colonel Tod in his book "Travels in the Western India" wrote that the state Sirohi also named as Sword and this had led people believe that this state of brave Devda Chauhans received it's present name due to its widespread fame of Swords.And if you want to purchase swords than this is the best place as it is also famous for swords.Sirohi means "Self respect is most important even if head may be detached" in other words "A Rajput of Sirohi will die for Self respect."
