Cristian “Cris” Sulser (born 1977 in St. Gallen) is a writer and film director.

Biography[edit]

Sulser was born in St. Gallen, Switzerland where he completed his primary and secondary education and the teacher's training college. In 1998 he startet working as assistant director for the international opera director Dieter Kaegi, worked at the operas in Metz, Biel and Dublin.

He then moved on to work in development under Gail Berman for the production company Regency Television, for television shows like Malcolm in the Middle, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Roswell (TV series). In addition, he worked as assistant director for feature films in Los Angeles, California.

Sulser became a host for Nickelodeon Switzerland for the Swiss national television network SRF (Schweizer Radio und Fernsehen) and amongst others, was in front of the camera for his own comedy show Rätpäck.[1]

Since 2004, Sulser works as freelance director and writer in Switzerland and Los Angeles. Together with Sven Epiney he founded the production company "Second Unit Mediaproductions" where he works as director and writer for film and television.[2] Sulser also works as story consultant for film and television scripts.

Education[edit]

Sulser graduated from the teacher's training college in Switzerland. Later her got a diploma from a one-year program at the School of Screenwriting in Berlin, Germany. He graduated with a Master of Fine Arts in Film Directing from the American Film Institute in Los Angeles, California.

Awards[edit]

Sulser is a two-time winner of the Prix Walo and the Swiss TV Award for Best Television Show. His short films Scrabble und Goodbye Vesna (produced by Bochen Zhang) have been screened at over 150 international film festivals and won over thirty awards.[3] (USA Film Festival, Cannes Film Festival, Cayman International Film Festival, Palm Springs International Festival of Short Films, Porto Rico Comic Con.[4] Sulser has been selected for the New Director Film Festival[5] and has been named a filmmaker to watch by Independent Filmmaker in the Spotlight.[6]
