Maelstrom Music PR is a music publicity firm based in Seal Beach, California.[1] Founded in 1998 by A&R and publicity veteran Curtis Smith,[2] the firm specializes in music placement, song plugging, online music marketing, public relations, and music A&R.[3] They work almost exclusively with independent record labels and musicians, such as Matt Farr and Wild Carrot.[4]

Overview[edit]

In October of 1998, Curtis Smith decided to leave his A&R / publicity work at labels such as Interscope Records to work on publicity for independent bands. He founded Maelstrom Music PR and began running the company full time.[3][5] They have recently grown into a source for A&R representatives from record labels, also working as a network of booking agents, band managers, radio promoters, manufacturers, and distributors.[5] They specialize in music placement, song plugging, online music marketing, public relations, and music A&R.[3]

Ron Laureano, a public relations graduate of California State University, Fullerton, also works at the firm.[6]

Location[edit]

The company is located at Seal Beach, California[1] in the greater Los Angeles area.[3][2]

Clients[edit]

The company promotes music labels and musicians of all genres.[4] Current clients include the thrash metal band K626, Detroit nerdcore hip-hop group Sample The Martian, [7] , 2Mile (the band creation of Jeremy Kerns),[8] the musician Magic Brook,[9] and singer-songwriter Matt Farr for Farr's 2010 album.[10] They've also handled publicity for the musician Veneto West,[11] Deb Cowan,[4] Wild Carrot,[4][12] Oklahoma artist Malan Darras,[13][14] producer Ronan Chris Murphy,[15] the rock, punk, and metal band named SiX,[16] and the band Voodoo Monkey Child on Little Pond Records.[17] Further clients have included Dust Recordings, an independent record company in Morton, IL,[18] Little Pond Records,[19] Travis Manning, Chris "Willie" Williams (i.e. Disclaimer), Roger Len Smith, Brett Johnson, Kingfield/ Blue Worm Records, Kelly Moore of Awaken Records, Todd Walthall (President of Galco Music Group), Emaximus, Alyssa Suede Campbell, and Patrick Cornell of Circus Diablo.[20]

They handled public relations for contemporary folk musician and composer Kelly Moore. Moore also helps run the non-profit organization "Music for Mankind" and was selected in 2009 to be a United States Delegate to Peru.[21]
