Kenneth Entwistle was professor of Metallurgy and Materials Science at UMIST and later the University of Manchester.
He unified the materials department of UMIST with the corresponding department at the University of Manchester in the 1970s, anticipating the eventual unification of the entire universities in 2004. (collaborating with his counterpart Edwin Smith) [1]
He was educated at Urmston Grammar school.
He was the author of a book on finite element analysis
Biography

Later in his career his research was focused on the properties of wood, specifically of the pine tree Pinus radiata. This work was carried out in collaboration with xxxxxxxx at the University of Canterbury, Christchurch in New Zealand [2]. He was awarded an adjunct professorship in the department of mechanical engineering.
