North Carolina State University (NC State or NCSU) is a public research university in Raleigh, North Carolina. It is a land, sea, and space-grant institution in the University of North Carolina system that forms one corner of the Research Triangle. It was founded in 1887 as the North Carolina College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts and has grown to be the largest university in the Carolinas and a preeminent research enterprise with noted strengths in engineering, agriculture, life sciences, textiles, and design. NCSU is dedicated to teaching, research, and engagement with public and private partners, promoting an integrated approach to problem solving that transforms lives and provides leadership for social, economic, and technological development across North Carolina and around the world.

About the Special Collections Research Center

The NCSU Libraries Special Collections Research Center (SCRC) is building an innovative, multidimensional special collections program in support of research and teaching at the university. The SCRC holds more than 22,000 linear feet of original materials documenting key collecting areas, which include the history of NCSU; the history of plant and forestry genetics and genomics; the history of computing and simulation; architecture, landscape architecture, and design; animal rights and welfare; textiles; veterinary medicine; zoological health; entomology; and related subject areas.

Collections in the SCRC’s holdings include the papers of botanists, agricultural extension agents, plant geneticists, crop scientists, soil scientists, entomologists and others who have worked to improve agricultural crops and practices. Research notes, correspondence, photographs, presentations, publications, and other valuable resources, provide an overview of agricultural innovation in North Carolina and beyond.
