The Qajuqturvik Food Centre is a registered charity that addresses food security and food sovereignty issues in Iqaluit, and the territory of Nunavut as a whole, with the primary goal of increasing healthy food access in the community. The Qajuqturvik Society, the body that oversees the running of the Food Centre, [1] was first established in the mid-90s. Since 2009, operations were moved into a new building with a fully-equipped commercial kitchen, an 80-person dining room, public washrooms, and wheelchair access.
In 2015 in an effort to increase the breadth and quality of the programming provided a collaboration with Community Food Centres Canada began [2]. In 2016 the Qajuqturvik Food Centre became a Good Food Organization and in 2019 is set to become a Community Food Centre and join a larger nationwide movement to address food insecurity.[3]
