Shontayne Hape (born January 30 1981 in Auckland, New Zealand) is a New Zealand Rugby League player for the Bradford Bulls in the English Super League competition, Hape has also previously played for the New Zealand Warriors in the NRL. Shontayne has also represented New Zealand at international level by being selected for both the junior and now senior squads. His position of choice is at Centre.

Childhood and early career[edit]

Shontanye Hape began playing rugby league in 1989 for his junior club Te Atatu Roosters in New Zealand. His rugby league idols were Mal Meninga, Laurie Daley, Mark Graham and James Leuluai[1]

New Zealand Warriors[edit]

In 1999, Shontayne joined his first professional club, the New Zealand Warriors (formerly the Auckland Warriors).

In 2001, Hape helped the New Zealand Warriors finish eighth on the National Rugby League table, which meant that the Warriors had reached the National Rugby League finals series. However they were defeated in the quarter finals by the Parramatta Eels 56-12 and were eliminated from the competition.

Bradford Bulls[edit]

Hape joined the Bradford Bulls in 2003???????? from the New Zealand Warriors. In his first season he was part of the Bulls Challenge Cup victory aswell as Championship honours??

In the 2003 season, he played in all but one of the Bulls 35 games, and he scored a total of 15 tries

In 2005, at hearing the news that Robbie Paul had left the club to join the Huddersfield Giants, Shontayne Hape hit out at the Bradford Bulls side for letting him leave. He put forward the point of view that, "He has been there since 1994 and helped build the club's success in Super League, I don't think that's the way to treat someone who has given so much to the club, both on and off the field...It's bamboozled me how the club can let people like [Robbie Paul] go and I didn't really know that when I signed my contract."

New Zealand[edit]

Off the field[edit]

In his spare time Shontayne Hape pursues the hobby of DJ-ing.
