ATX Floppy Power Connector is a standardized electrical connector that supplied DC power to 3.5-inch floppy drives inside "Wintel" (Windows/Intel) computers. In the past, this connector was also used as an auxiliary power source for AGP video cards, then later as a power source for card reader bays and USB hub bays. Though modern computers no longer contain floppy drives, many new ATX power supplies still have this DC connector.

Other vernacular terms have been incorrectly used as names for the 3.5-inch floppy drive power connector, such as "Berg" or "Mini-Molex". The term Berg was derived from Berg Electronics, a connector company which no longer exists, while Molex is another connector company.

Connector pitch:

  • 2.50 millimetres (0.098 in) (distance from center to center of neighbor pins).

Female cable from ATX power supply:[1]

  • Consists of four individual 20 AWG wires. The color of the wire insulation for pin 1 must be red, pin 2 and 3 must be black, pin 4 must be yellow.
  • Plastic housing is TE Connectivity (AMP) 171822-4.
  • Female metal contact pins are choice of TE Connectivity (AMP) 170204-x or 170262-x, where "x" is 1 or 2 or 4.[2][3]

Male header on PCB:

  • The male PCB connector on the 3.5" floppy drive is a polarized right-angle male header, which is a TE Connectivity (AMP) 171826-4,[4] the vertical model is TE Connectivity (AMP) 171825-4.[5]

Berg connector is a brand of electrical connector used in computer hardware. Berg connectors are manufactured by Berg Electronics Corporation of St. Louis, Missouri, a division of Framatome Connectors International.

Berg connectors have a 2.54 mm (=.100 inch) pitch, pins are square (0.64 mm x 0.64 mm = approx. 0.025 x 0.025 inch), and usually come as single or double row connectors.

Many types of Berg connectors exist. Some of the more familiar ones used in IBM PC compatibles are:

  • the 4-pin polarized Berg connectors used to connect 3.5-inch floppy disk drive units to the power supply unit, usually referred to as simply a "floppy power connector", but often also referred to as LP4. This connector has a 2.5 mm pitch (not 2.54)!!
  • the 2-pin Berg connectors used to connect the front panel lights, turbo switch, and reset button to the motherboard, and
  • the 2-pin Berg connectors used as jumpers for motherboard configuration.

The power connector itself is a Berg connector, sometimes referred to as a Mini-Molex connector.
