Darren Mark

Darren Mark is a Professor of Isotope Geochronology at the University of Glasgow and Director of Research at the Scottish Universities Environmental Research Centre^[1]. Mark also holds a Honorary Professorship at St Andrews University^[2] and is widely regarded as a leader in noble gas mass spectrometry^[3] and applications of 40Ar/39Ar geochronology to both the terrestrial and planetary sciences.

Career

Having gained degrees in both chemistry and geology Mark studied for his PhD (2004-2007) at the University of Aberdeen and focussed on developing techniques to use absolute geochronology to determine fluid flow histories in sedimentary basins. He joined the Scottish Universities Environmental Research Centre in 2007 as a Research Fellow to develop and lead the 40Ar/39Ar NERC Facility. In 2016 Mark was awarded a Personal Chair (promoted to Professor) and now leads a portfolio of NERC research Facilities and holds the title Director of Research.
