Smithton Primary (Scottish Gaelic: Bun-sgoil Smithton) is a non-denominational primary school in Smithton, Highland, Scotland.[1] The current enrolment is 341 pupils.[2] The catchment area includes Smithton, Westhill and Resauire in the east of Inverness.

About

[edit]

Smithton Primary was established in 1974, being the first primary school to be created on Smithton Park[3] The new Culloden Academy buildings opened in August 1982, in the east of Inverness. The facilities in Culloden Academy include a fitness centre, a swimming pool and two athletic halls. It also serves as a community centre.

In 2021, temporary classrooms were erected to ease overcrowding as the school was almost 200 pupils over its capacity.[4][5] There are plans to further expand the school and to replace some of the buildings.[6]

Aims

[edit]

The stated aim of Culloden Academy is to "establish a caring, positive and enjoyable educational environment for all who participate in the life of our community school".[7]

Rectors

[edit]
  • Mr. Mark Morrison 1974-2005
  • Mr. Stephen Dowds 2003-2012
