YB Senator Datuk Chong Sin Woon (Chinese: 张盛闻) (born 25 December 1974) is a Malaysian politician. He is the Deputy Minister of Education (Malaysia), Chairman of the MCA Youth Wing, a party in Malaysia’s governing Barisan Nasional coalition and senator in the Dewan Negara.

Chong was born in Seremban and grew up in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan to a Hakka clan. He received his primary education at SJK (C) Kuo Min and secondary education at SMK Dato’ Mohd Said, both schools are located in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan.

He completed his Bachelor of Economics (Honours) at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia in 1999.

MCA Youth Chief

During the MCA Party Election held in 2013, Chong who was a government servant, won 794 votes to beat 40-year-old businessman Datuk Goh Gaik Meng who obtained 701 votes.

He is the 5th Vice-president (Youth Chief) of MCA. The then newly elected Youth Chief vowed that he would work closely with the new office-bearers to steer the youth wing and inject a new breath of air into the party as listed in his manifesto. Among the issues that are in focus include the party’s political struggles.

He has devoted his life in a career to promote unity in multicultural Malaysia as a politician.

Senator

On 21 April 2014, he was sworn in as a Senator in the Dewan Negara for the 2014 – 2017 term by the Negeri Sembilan State Assembly. He was reappointed on 21 April 2017 for another term[1].

Deputy Minister of Education (Malaysia)

On 29 July 2015, he assumed office as the Deputy Minister of Education (Malaysia). Chong has been cited by educationists as a suitable candidate for the job because he has been daring in championing issues.

Malaysian Youth Farmers Co-operative (Koperasi Petani Muda Malaysia)

In 2015, the Malaysian Youth Farmers’ Co-operative (KPMM) was set up. To date, it has over 400 members. Chong was appointed as its chairman. This is an initiative to promote urban farming and the agricultural sector to the younger generation so that Malaysia can be more self-sufficient in food supply.

KPMM has initiated the land bank project to match suitable land owners with entrepreneurs and advise on the possible projects according to the type of land.

During its annual general meeting (AGM) in 2016, KPMM signed two memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with Kooperasi Serbaguna Malaysia Bhd and Karak Land Sdn Bhd to allow for the development of unused land for agricultural projects for young farmers.
