Shannon Muir (born July 10 1972 in San Diego, California) is an American animation writer and production coordinator. Her animation writing credits are for the Japanese series Midnight Horror School, created by Naomi Iwata, who also created the Japanese hit Gregory Horror Show. As a production coordinator, her series credits include the Say it With Noddy interstitals, Invader Zim, and Extreme Ghostbusters. Her industry break came as a production assistant for the animated series based on Jumanji.

Her first book, Gardner's Guide to Writing and Producing Animation, detailing a step-by-step walk through the animation production process from deciding on a concept to marketing and distribution, was released in 2007. This was followed by the release of Gardner's Guide to Pitching and Selling Animation currently only available in e-book. She's also written both short and long form fiction.

Shannon also has published research available comparing attitude toward the ad, brand, and spokesperson in regard to animated versus live-action (actual human) presenters. This was done as part of her MA in Communications from California State University, Fullerton.

Before becoming a professional in animation in 1996, she originally became well-known in the fan base of the animated series Voltron for her starmap of the series' far universe known as the Denubian Galaxy, which led to her being hired as a creative consultant for World Events Productions and their adopting her starmap as the official one for the series. The crucial influence of this map is illustrated in the Voltron:The Third Dimension episode The Trial of Voltron, which relied heavily on the Map for the layout of the Galaxy and the placement of planets for the makeup of the interstellar jury. Years later, when the original producer of Voltron: Defender of the UniversePeter Keefe passed away, she would be asked to speak about him at the 2011 Afternoon of Remembrance hosted by organizations including ASIFA-Hollywood.

She regularly appears guest on LET'S VOLTRON: THE OFFICIAL VOLTRON PODCAST to bring in her extensive knowledge of the series and the history of the fandom.

The daughter of retired US Navy warrant officer John C. Muir, Shannon also lived in Japan at Naval Support Facility Kamiseya and Iroquois Point, Hawaii, before her father retired in 1984. Between 1984 and 1996, she lived with her her family in her adopted hometown of Cheney, Washington, where she received a BA in Radio-TV and English from Eastern Washington University.

Together, Shannon and her father are noted for their longtime involvement in Play-By-Mail gaming, when they both wrote for the long running Play-By-Mail magazine PAPER MAYHEM. They also donated their Muir family collection on play-by-mail games to the University of California, Riverside.
