logitics is the process of planning ,implementing and controlling the efficient ,effective flow adn storage of goods, services from the point origin to the point of consumption in order to meet consumers needs.this include the inbound, outbound ,internal and external movement and return of materials for the environmental purposes.and supply chain has to do with the network facilities and distribution that performs the function of procurement of materials, convert these materials into intermediate and final products and distribute them to consumers.TP Harrison,Pen University. the reason why southern Africa's logistics and supply chain is inefficient is because of the followings:there have excessive border delays, inefficient customs procedures, frightening levels of bureaucracy, and the most popular one that does exist in almost all countries which is corruption, there is too little expertise in Africa we so dependent on foreign countries for expertise, too much empty running and finally a very limited concept of service. Landlocked countries mostly suffer from economic and time penalties compared to coastal countries in terms of export and import costs. In addition, clearance times in Eastern Africa’s landlocked countries are almost 5 times higher compared to those with port access in the same region.Transporters on trade corridors operate under regulatory systems that can negatively affect productivity and impose an additional burden on landlocked countries. While transport costs are not very different from levels. According to the assessment of logistics specialists, regulation and the quality of logistics services has improved in recent years and this situation is much more favorable in SADC countries. Southern African countries has a great potential to develop as a trading region, and economic force by a manufacturing base,by exploiting their position, raw materials and market potential and also by training and educating their people.they must understand and adopt international standards of services.infrastructure as one of Africa critical growth enables saying ,capital and resources investment by public and private sector must focus on ensurring on going maintenance and optional improvement of southern africa's transportation network.the region require balanced road, rail, water, pipelines and air.
