The Serenade for Strings (in Swedish: Serenad för stråkar), Op. 11, is a four-movement orchestral composition written in 1937 by the Swedish composer Dag Wirén. The piece premiered on 27 October 1937 at the National Museum in Stockholm, Sweden, with Tobias Wilhelmi conducting the Stockholm Chamber Orchestra—its two dedicatees.[1]
Structure
[edit]The Serenade for Strings is in four movements. They are as follows:[1]
- Preludium (Prelude): Allegro molto
- Andante espressivo
- Scherzo: Allegro vivace — Trio: Poco meno moto
- Marcia: Tempo di marcia, molto ritmico
